Last week, as I was driving home from work I got a notification from eBay for a saved search I’d had in place for years. I pulled over to the side of the road and found someone had listed not one, but several HTC Exca 300 phones on eBay. Mission complete. I bought one, and today it arrived.
For years I’ve collected Google phones, tablets, chromebooks – basically if it has a Google logo on it, I try to nab it. I’ve built a collection over years from eBay sales and new, but this was different. This phone was never released to the general public, it was only given to developers to build Android apps on and given it was released given out in 2007, I doubted I’d ever get my hands on one.
So, what’s in it? Well, the hardware on it is top notch! )Heavy Sarcasm tag)
- 2.4-inch (320×240) (non touch) display
- TI OMAP 850 processor
- 64MB RAM (yes, that’s MB)
- 64MB of on-board storage – don’t worry it supports mini-SD
- 1.3MP Camera
- 2G only (No 2G network in Australia, so…🤷♂️
- Wi-fi? No
-
QWERTY Keyboard.
Condition wise, it’s brand new, it even has the protective plastic wrapping on the screen and navigation buttons.
It came in a non-descript white box, but still had a bunch of accessories including a mini-USB charger (US plug), mini-USB headphones (that’s right, there’s no headphone jack) and a miniUSB to USB-A cable.
Battery unfortunately has popped thanks to the ravages of time, but there’s some on eBay so I’ve ordered one and then I’ll have a play with it hopefully.
I’ll hopefully get the battery (ordered from the US) soon, and I can actually get it on and see what it can do.
